Regular daily exercise is a vital part of staying well, indeed muscles, joints and bones need exercise to ensure circulation of blood through them and the stimulus to lay down new muscle, connective tissue and bone. Disuse will result in thinning bones, weak muscles and connective tissue. Indeed this limits the time astronauts can spend in space - they suffer acute osteoporosis!
